I NEED YOUR HELP!

Posted Date: 06/17/26 (11:48 AM)

Good morning!
Hope you are all having a wonderful summer break with your kids.  I need your help in a grant proposal I'm writing for Hosford School through the Department of State Historical Preservation office.  The old historic Hosford School building and gymnasium were added to the national historic registry a few years ago which allows us to apply for historical preservation funds for repairs.  The eight old chimneys that once provided heat to the old building were replaced by boiler heaters sometime in the 50's-60's.  The chimneys remain in place but have suffered through Hurricane Michael, a tornado, and multiple storm events.  We are asking for funds ($300k) from the state to repair the old chimneys and roof repair/replacement where needed.  So, if the state provides the funds, what do I need from YOU?

This grant is a competitive grant, and we will get a higher ranking with MULTIPLE letters of support from Liberty County, especially those who were former students and staff at the school.  Many of us, like myself, had classes in the old building and remember going to Kindergarten with Ms. Iris Eubanks in that old building.

I need you to write a letter or send me an email telling the importance of the old historic Hosford School in Liberty County and your support to make the needed repairs.  It can be a very simple, short, and heartfelt letter telling the historical committee your love for that old building and your desire to see it repaired.

A sample letter could look like this, but you make it as personal as you want:

Dear State of Florida Historical Committee:
I am writing this letter of support for the old historic Hosford School building in Liberty County.  It is an iconic fixture as one of the oldest buildings in Liberty County.  I am in full support and am asking for your full support in funding the much-needed repairs to the old historical building's chimneys and roof.  With these much-needed repairs, the old historic Hosford School building will be there for generations to admire and enjoy.  Due to the fact the building is still being used to house current Hosford School administrative offices, guidance offices, and front office staff, these needed repairs are needed even more as soon as possible.  I support the historic preservation roof and chimney repair for the old historic Hosford School building.

Sincerely,
John Q. Public
