LCHS Incident UPDATE

Posted Date: 10/12/26 (05:25 PM)

Good afternoon,
Around 1:50pm EST today, LCHS received a call from a male who said he was on campus with guns and a bomb.   LCHS immediately went on a lock down with Sheriff Dusty Arnold and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office onsite within 2 minutes.  Joining the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office was Calhoun County Sheriff Michael Bryant and multiple Calhoun deputies.  They were joined by officers from FWC, FDLE, FHP, and DFS.  We had around 100 law enforcement officers on the scene to secure LCHS.

After 2 thorough searches with bomb and weapon detecting dogs, LCHS has been cleared.  All students left their backpacks at the school and they were cleared as well by the K-9 team.  All our buses and student vehicles were also cleared before any students were allowed to leave.

As a precautionary measure, Tolar School and Hosford School both received the same searches as LCHS this afternoon and both schools have been cleared.  I want to commend our staff and students for the excellent job they did following protocol.  We train for situations like this.

Tomorrow, we will have an extra law enforcement presence on all our campuses.  We want our students to return to school ready to learn with great confidence that our school Guardians and the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office will keep them safe.

FDLE is actively working to find the caller.  Looking forward to our wonderful Sheriff doing a live video putting this jerk in the Liberty County Jail!

Thank you for your patience and understanding today.  To God be the Glory for his safety and strength today!

Sincerely,
Kyle Peddie
Liberty County Superintendent of Schools.
